Xanthippie
About that first pancake...
You are so right.
Got to adjust about everything. Batter to thin? Skillet not hot enough..etc., etc..
We called it The First Child.
[I'm one smile]
i can't even remember what got me interested in pans, probably wanting to try cooking more and watching some cooking videos on youtube, but i kind of started wanting to get a cast-iron skillet specifically so started reading up on them.
hey, if you're going to spend $50 on something you need to study them and create a comparison spreadsheet ... right?.
not only did cast-iron look great for cooking but there are some studies that show risks to aluminium / teflon cookware ... not that the wts was "right" about aluminium, but teflon can give off carcinogenic chemicals if overheated (so what if it chips off into your food?).

I love mine too. :-)
The best for a frittata. perfection.
They are passed down in the Family.
Ha, they are a better weapon of mass fear than a lightweight aluminum pan. Meow.
You can find them at garage sales and goodwill sometimes. Usually over cleaned though.
PS , butter is good for you. Trust me.
in conversation with an old jw friend today, it struck me that most jws have replaced their personal conscience with a collective one.. instead of training their own mental powers to distinguish right from wrong, as the bible encourages, they are content to shift personal accountability away from themselves and onto the impersonal org.
whatever behaviour may prompt an ordinary person to have serious misgivings ( such as ignoring glaring misapplication of scripture or rejecting basic human decency in favour of unchristian shunning ) they prefer to have those decisions made for them.. history teaches us, however, that there is no absolution for people who behave unethically or cruelly by allowing the excuse of 'obeying orders' to override what their inner voice should scream is inherently wrong..
' a collective conscience'
I spent a lot of time thinking about this on my way out.
What I came away with is , you don't develop a 'conscience' if you live by rules.
Your brain isn't engaged in the same way.
wolves use their "loyalty" questions to trap others - "do you believe we're living in the last days/this is god's organization/faithful slave?
" - yet resolutely avoid discussing topics which put their org in a bad light, my "loyalty" question to them would be - "do you accept literature truth over bible truth?
" they will either run or be forced to ask for examples of alleged differences.any other suggestions for "loyalty" questions?.
First off , I now avoid people that ask that trap question.
Years ago when I was doing my fade, and got the friendly visit with a CO and an Elder I did really like.
I lied. I told them what they needed to hear. Got to keep it very short though, and look very hurt and shocked.
Heck , I was taught by them to lie as a kid. ' Grandma I don't like Christmas gifts. I get gifts all year long.' lol
No guilt. 'Theocratic warfare' Karma
Life is to short to have that type of conversation. If stupid me can figure it out , than they can too, if they want to. They don't. Gosh they all have their Ipads , it's at their finger tips.
i approach elders like a skilled lawyer, more than once i applied this.
i would ask is it better to reveal a serious sin or is it better to hide.
of course we know the answer i received.
brother naughty had affairs, visited prostitutes, borrowed money that was never returned.
was made a ms, then an elder in a short time by changing congregations.
confessed ....
then moved to another country that looked up to americans as superior . [haha]
they made him an elder in a short time, he did the memorial talk and was the COBE with in a year.
I always wonder about the letters of recommendation that are sent. hmmm
so i was talking with my daughter the other day and she tells me that she doesn't want me to push my beliefs on her.i am agnostic.
which isn't a belief.
it's a lack of belief.
I keep this quote in mind with teenagers and many personality types [my own included].
'the less someone says, the harder to forget'
a few years ago while traveling in the northeast, my wife and i stopped in new haven, connecticut, at a b&b we'd reserved for the night.
no sooner had we unpacked and moved into the living room for tea and treats, our hosts began to talk about religion, and we learned they were jehovah's witnesses.
i didn't mind so much, but my wife was outraged that our hosts would use their place of business as a launching point to do missionary work.
I heard this from someone else...
Innocently talk about being a medium.
Talk about their beautiful spiritual Aura.
Ask to hold their hands and pretend to read their palms.
I imagine they will leave you be and wake up next morning with a neck ache from the bible they placed under their pillow.
wow, this is awesome.
this really shows the jw passiveness towards child sex abusers.
there needs to be more of this exposing this!.
I hear/read on this board about these pervs coming back to the Hall and know that they may get their 'privileges' back.
But to see this in a video is shocking and nauseating.
The different reactions in the car group is revealing. One defends, one hides his face.
As a parent and grandmother, seeing this perv dressed like a preacher going in this group is scary.
I cant believe that JW's think this is safe. Most everyone knows that child molesters are incurable . They [JW'S] should be held accountable.
As OrphanCrow has but up he has already repeated his crime.
Disgusting !
And, why go to a prison and recut a convicted child molester....more insanity.
during the last decade i've seen so many articles, and top speakers try to downplay that nfb policy.
now, this weeks wt study mentions a positive experience of someone applying having, "contact and applying nfb with a df relative".
NFB =
taking care of elderly family who thought they would be in the new system by now and are not finically prepared.
We certainly will not. So start being nice [ i.e. NFB] to your DF'd kids. You're going to need them.
the watchtower november 2016, page 16, par.
"some may feel that they can interpret the bible on their own.
however, jesus has appointed the ‘faithful slave’ to be the only* channel for dispensing spiritual food.
adding to this is how they changed the baptism questions in the 80's .
leaving out the holy spirit and adding their org. in it's place.
